We work with MassTLC and a few days ago were asked to update Microsoft’s logo on the MassTLC Technology Leadership Awards website. Attached to the email was this shiny newly designed logo.
What? Microsoft updated their logo? Yes, after 25 years Microsoft unveiled a new logo design today. Will it be a success or will it be an epic fail like the Gap logo fiasco?
Logo design is tricky. You need to be simple but not too simple. You need to be different but still look like it is part of a certain category you want your company to be in.
“This is an incredibly exciting year for Microsoft as we prepare to release new versions of nearly all of our products. From Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Xbox services to the next version of Office, you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs. This wave of new releases is not only a reimagining of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning,” wrote Microsoft’s Jeffrey Meisner in a blog post.
All I can say is that it looks good to me. What do you think?
